Is there public transportation available to go from LAX to La Mesa? Any great places in either area to visit?
Planning a trip in a few months to California. Would like to start off going from LAX to La Mesa, spending a few days there, perhaps visiting Tijuana and than traveling back to Los Angeles area spending time there and than spending a few days at Disney Land and than flying home. Is it difficult going from La Mesa to Tijuana? Is it safe to visit Tijuana?
I'm curious why you're choosing La Mesa, when San Diego is RIGHT THERE. I've never been to La Mesa so maybe there is something great that you know and I don't. But I would definitely suggest stopping SD, visiting Balboa Park, Coronado Island, The Gaslamp District, and Old Town. There is a train that runs from LAX to San Diego called The Pacific Surf-liner, it's an Amtrak train so you can check prices and schedules on their website. Besides that, public transit in SoCal is BAD. You're going to be taking buses everywhere. I would suggest just shelling out the money for a rental car, if you can afford one, it will save you a lot of time. If not, give yourself lots of time to get places. LA has a small train system, not sure about SD.
I've never been to Tijuana, but I think as long as you do your research and don't act like an idiot, you'll be OK. A little further south of TJ is La Bufadora, which is an incredible natural phenomenon. I think its in Ensenada, MX.
There's more to do in LA than Disneyland, that could probably only be one day of your trip. You should visit Venice Beach (and the lesser known Venice Canals), The Griffith Observatory, Historic Downtown LA, Santa Monica, etc...
Hope you have fun! over 7 years ago
I went to Tijuana once... And only once. I did not feel safe at all. That was years ago. Since then, I've been to other parts of Mexico and had a wonderful time, but I cannot recommend Tijuana. And yes, San Diego is very nice. Los Angeles isn't and I have no idea why tourists always want to go there... over 7 years ago
