I doubt I'll ever afford to do this, so this question is more of a 'one day if I win the lottery'...
However, I'm interested to hear from anyone that's hired a van and road-tripped through Norway.
Did you stumble upon any free campsites?
What time of year would be best to go?
What would you suggest we pack?
What route would you suggest to follow?
I can imagine it was super expensive, but do you have any tips for budget travellers? (I'm predicting 'No' but would love to hear tips on how to cut costs)
There isn't much info out there (besides the Norway travel site) and I'd rather hear from someone that's actually done it themselves!
Thanks in advance!
My husband and I did this 10 years ago in our early 60s. We hired a campervan to be collected in Stockholm and dropped it off in Helsinki 2 weeks later having driven west to the coast of Norway up through the fiord coast and islands, into the arctic circle and across Lapland(visiting Santa on the way) and down the length of Finland. Late September I think. Long days, sunny, but north was cold. The school year has started and many caravan parks were closing. Certainly not full.
It's a long time ago but at that time it was legal to park/camp almost anywhere. North Norway we parked, at a carpark looking out across the fiords. I asked permission from a hotel there and they were baffled .... of course we could park over night.... another night we stopped by a lake.... just us and a million dollar view. Consult up to date camping data.
Petrol very $$$$ Food also $$$$$. Having our our kitchen saved us a fortune.
It was a wonderful experience! about 2 years agoAnswered by Maryanne via WorldNomads.com
